Founded by the Sisters of Mercy the Mater has been built upon the five core values of care, mercy, dignity, quality and commitment. Each of these values represent the true meaning of the Mater.
Mater Mothers’ Hospital
One in six Queenslanders are born at the Mater Mothers’ Hospital.
Caring for more than 8,000 mothers and babies each year in state-of-the-art surroundings, the Mater Mothers’ is Queensland’s major maternity hospital and the busiest maternity facility in Australia.
The Mater Mothers’ has the expertise, capability and reputation for managing high-risk and life-threatening pregnancies. Women experiencing severe pregnancy complications and newborn babies diagnosed with complex illnesses and disorders come from across Queensland, northern New South Wales and the Pacific region to be cared for at the Mater.
Mater Children’s Hospital
Every year, thousands of children from zero to seventeen years of age come to the Mater Children’s Hospital to receive treatment for all types of injuries and illnesses.
In 2007 more than 14,000 children were admitted to the Mater Children’s Hospital wards and around 50,000 attended outpatient clinics. In addition to these figures, almost 41,000 children were treated by Mater’s Paediatric Emergency Department, which is the busiest in Queensland.
It is thanks to the exceptional care given by the staff at the Mater Children’s Hospital, that little miracles occur at the Mater every day.
