“It was so busy that day, I could not hear the person on the other end of the phone properly,” said Gerald.
That person was Nigel Harris, CEO of Mater Foundation ringing Gerald to inform him of his win.
“I have called to congratulate you on becoming a millionaire. You have won a million dollar home in Banksia Beach on beautiful Bribie Island, plus $200,000 worth of gold bullion, plus a BMW X6, plus a $5,000 Visa gift card, PLUS a $2,000 holiday voucher—which is a total prize value of just over $1.9 million” said Nigel. “And as you bought a $100 ticket book you have also won an additional Book Buyers prize of another $60,000 worth of gold bullion!”
“Are you fair dinkum? I can’t believe this is true. The only thing I have ever won before was a packet of fruit tingles,” said Gerald as the shock of his win started to set in.
It wasn’t until a few days later when the registered post arrived with the winning letter details that it truly began to become real for Gerald and his wife Debbie.
“I contacted the kids and asked them how they felt about going to live on Bribie Island,” said Gerald.
On the day Gerald accepted his amazing prize in person, his family had flown from all over Australia (Canberra, Townsville and Mossman in Far North Queensland) to celebrate the win with him and to check out the Bribie Island home.
Gerald and Debbie have been long time VIP supporters of Mater Prize Home lottery.
“It is lovely to know the money goes to a good cause,” said Debbie.
