Water sports on Bribie Island
Winning this stunning home on fabulous Bribie is as easy as buying a ticket and enjoying all of the water sports on offer is just about as simple! Water sports on Bribie Island and the surrounding Moreton Bay region can be done all year round and aren’t just limited to swimming and playing around in your own private pool. You will easily be able to access almost any water sport imaginable and there are plenty of spots that suit everyone's interests and skill levels. Take a break from enjoying all of the fantastic amenities at your very own resort style home and check out just what Bribie has to offer for water sports enthusiasts.
Bribie Island is a world class location for diving and there are several tour companies on the island who offer customised trips that will perfectly suit you and your needs. Diving around Bribie and the rest of the fabulous Moreton Bay region gives you the opportunity to visit shipwrecks, explore caves and coral reefs, not to mention checking out stunning marine life - dugongs, dolphins and an endless array of fish are common to the area. The Pumicestone Passage, numerous lagoons and beaches, as well as open ocean sites are all easily accessible meaning that all experience levels are catered for. The beauty of the Moreton Bay waters means that diving on Bribie really has to be seen to be believed.
Boating and Fishing
Bribie Island is a prime location for boating - whether that is fishing, sight seeing or something in between. The fishing around Bribie is fantastic and if you are a keen angler you will not regret getting amongst it. There are so many options ranging from prime spots for novices on the shore to testing sites for pros out to sea. There is a huge range of fish including flathead, whiting and bream, not to mention the crabs and prawns that actually breed in the Pumicestone Passage that borders one side of Bribie Island. Keen boaties who don't have their own vessel or aren't so keen on actually catching the marine life may instead want to check out some of the Island's eco-tours. There are plenty to choose from and many of the tour operators can customise tours to fit in with your specific interests. The marine and bird life around Bribie is very special indeed and we are quite certain that you will not regret taking to the water to see it all. The wonderful climate in this part of Australia and the views of the Glass House Mountains provide sightseeing opportunities that simply don't exist elsewhere in Australia.
There are great spots for kayaking, both in the ocean and in the more sheltered lagoons, bays and inlets around Bribie island. Beginners or experts, coastal or sea kayakers, will all find something to love about kayaking here. Thanks to the 56 square kilometres of national park on Bribie there are numerous secluded spots that are only accessible by water and that means no crowds. Combine that with the fact that the Pumicestone Passage is largely protected from big winds and the water is therefore generally very calm, this is a great location for all the family to take to the water and explore. Kayak hire is cheap and easy on Bribie and we think it is definitely worth a try!
Stand up paddle boarding has to be the most on trend water sport out there and if you have been secretly harbouring a desire to give it a go, you couldn't pick a better place to test it out than on Bribie. Gear is available for hire on the Island and there are plenty of safe beaches for learners to improve their skill levels. If you are an experienced paddle boarder, or after a few trips to Bribie you have developed some major skills, there are also some more challenging locations. It would take a long time to get bored with the paddle boarding opportunities that the island has to offer.
Amazing views coupled with a bit of an adrenalin rush seems like an apt description for jet skiing on Bribie. There are plenty of places to take out your own jet skis if you are lucky enough to own one, but if you don't, then don't worry - hiring them on the island is no trouble at all! Children are allowed to travel on jet skis as passengers and anyone over the age of 16 can try driving one for themselves. Fun for everyone! Something else you might not know? Jet skiing can be a great cardio work out - getting fit without even noticing it!
Bribie is the perfect place for beginner surfers as it offers rolling gentle surf that is sheltered from the blustery southern winds and has plenty of space. Great surf without the crowds! There are relatively few hazards at the surf beaches of Bribie and the beach break offers a sandy bottom so if you come off while you are honing your skills, there really isn't too much to worry about. Many of the beaches are also patrolled from September to May too, which will keep you even safer. A great place to try first would be Woorim Beach, which is sheltered thanks to Moreton Island to the east meaning there are plenty of short but still exciting rides for beginners. Easy access to the mainland thanks to the Bribie Island bridge means that more experienced surfers are also able to easily head further along the Sunshine Coast to check out more challenging conditions and still be home for dinner.
