Pumicestone Passage is the body of water which separates Bribie Island from the mainland. It is bursting with wildlife and natural beauty, steeped in history, and is one of the world’s most ecologically important waterways. It stretches for 35 kilometres, from Caloundra to Deception Bay in the south and is the oldest registered fish habitat in Queensland.
This spectacular waterway offers a sheltered recreational area perfect for boating, fishing, kayaking and swimming. The Passage is also recognised as one of the most important bird habitats on the east coast of Australia – making it a bird-watcher’s paradise! Now just imagine spending a Saturday here enjoying all these activities during the day and then simply watching the magic of a sunset over the Glasshouse Mountains – paradise!
Explore Bribie’s beaches
Bribie offers the best of both worlds for a beach lover – providing a long stretch of surf shoreline, but also a calm protected coastline. Head to the popular Woorim Beach on the eastern side of the island for some surfing fun on the white, long sandy beach – where you can also enjoy four-wheel driving areas.
If you head to the western side of the island you will find the beaches at Bongaree and Bellara – both favoured by families as they provide BBQs, picnic facilities, play areas for the kids and calm swimming spots - making it the ideal destination for a day out with family and friends.
Nonetheless, no matter which beach you go to, Bribie Island features kilometres of beautiful coastline – so you will not be disappointed!
